Conditions We Treat

  • Anxiety Disorders+

Anxiety disorders are common mental health conditions that involve persistent worry, fear, or nervousness that interferes with daily life. Women are diagnosed with anxiety disorders at higher rates, partly due to hormonal, social, and biological factors.

    Symptoms of anxiety disorders include:
difficulty concentrating, excessive worry or racing thoughts, fatigue, gastrointestinal discomfort, insomnia, irritability, muscle tension, rapid heartbeat, restlessness, shortness of breath, sweating or trembling.

  • Endometriosis+

Endometriosis is a condition where tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside the uterus. This tissue can cause inflammation, pain, and scarring, often affecting the ovaries, fallopian tubes, and pelvic lining.

    Symptoms of endometriosis include:
abdominal pain, bloating, fatigue, gastrointestinal symptoms, heavy or irregular menstrual bleeding, infertility, lower back pain, pain during or after intercourse, painful periods, pain with bowel movements or urination, pelvic pain.

  • Gut Health Disorders+

Digestive and gut health problems can affect women’s energy, metabolism, hormones, immunity, and overall well-being. Common conditions include IBS, leaky gut, acid reflux, Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, SIBO, celiac disease, and food intolerances.

Poor gut health may contribute to symptoms such as bloating, fatigue, weight changes, inflammation, skin issues, and hormone imbalances.

  • Hormone Imbalance+

Hormone imbalance in women occurs when estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, thyroid hormones, or other regulatory hormones are out of balance. These shifts can happen during puberty, pregnancy, perimenopause, menopause, or due to conditions such as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), thyroid disorders, or chronic stress.

    Symptoms of hormone imbalance include:
anxiety or depression, brain fog, fatigue, hair thinning, hot flashes or night sweats, irregular or heavy periods, irritability, low libido, mood swings, weight changes.

  • Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT)+

Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) is a medical treatment that restores declining hormone levels, most commonly estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, and DHEA. It is often used to help relieve symptoms related to hormonal changes such as those that occur during perimenopause or menopause.

HRT helps rebalance hormones to relieve symptoms and support overall health including energy, mood, mental clarity, sleep, and bone and metabolic health.

  • Hypothyroidism and Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis+

Hypothyroidism and Hashimoto’s Disease are conditions that affect the thyroid gland, which plays an important role in regulating metabolism, energy levels, and hormone balance.
Hashimoto’s thyroiditis is an autoimmune condition in which the immune system attacks the thyroid gland, often leading to hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid).

Common symptoms of hypothyroidism and Hashimoto's thyroiditis include:
brain fog, cold sensitivity, constipation, depression, dry skin, fatigue, hair loss, muscle weakness, unexplained weight gain.

  • Insulin Resistance+

Insulin resistance occurs when the body’s cells do not respond properly to insulin, a hormone that helps move sugar (glucose) from the bloodstream into cells for energy. When cells become resistant, blood sugar levels rise, and the pancreas must produce more insulin to compensate.

    Symptoms of insulin resistance include:
Darkened skin patches, difficulty losing weight, fatigue after meals, high blood sugar, high cholesterol, increased abdominal fat, increased hunger, sugar cravings.

  • Irregular Menstrual Cycles+

Irregular menstrual cycles occur when the timing, frequency, or flow of a woman’s period varies from month to month. In functional medicine, irregular cycles are often viewed as a sign of underlying hormonal imbalances or other factors such as stress, thyroid dysfunction, blood sugar imbalances, or inflammation that may be affecting the body’s natural hormonal rhythms.

  • Menopause and Perimenopause+

Perimenopause is the transitional phase leading up to menopause, during which a woman’s hormone levels (estrogen and progesterone) begin to fluctuate. It typically starts in a woman’s 40s, but can begin earlier.
Menopause is a natural phase in a woman’s life marked by the permanent end of menstrual periods. Menopause is typically diagnosed after 12 consecutive months without a period.

Symptoms of perimenopause and menopause include:
hot flashes, fatigue, irregular or missed periods, low libido, mood swings, night sweats, sleep disturbances, vaginal dryness, anxiety or irritability, brain fog, and difficulty concentrating, weight changes.

  • Metabolic Syndrome+

Metabolic Syndrome is a cluster of conditions that occur together and increase the risk of heart disease, stroke, and type 2 diabetes. It involves issues with blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol, and abdominal fat, often linked to insulin resistance and lifestyle factors.

    Symptoms of metabolic syndrome include:
elevated blood pressure, fatigue, high blood sugar or insulin resistance, high cholesterol levels, increased abdominal fat, difficulty losing weight.

  • Migraines+

Migraines are a type of severe headache often characterized by throbbing pain, usually on one side of the head, and can be accompanied by nausea, sensitivity to light or sound, and visual disturbances. Hormonal fluctuations can trigger or worsen migraines in many women.

    Symptoms of migraines include:
fatigue, intense head pain, light or sound sensitivity, nausea or vomiting, visual auras.

  • Osteoporosis+

Osteoporosis is a condition where bones become weak and brittle due to loss of bone density, increasing the risk of fractures. It is more common after menopause because declining estrogen levels affect bone strength.

Symptoms of osteoporosis include: back pain, loss of height, stooped posture, bones that break more easily than expected.

  • Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS)+

PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome) is a common hormonal disorder in people with ovaries, typically of reproductive age, where the ovaries produce excess androgens (male hormones) and ovulation is irregular. This can affect menstrual cycles, metabolism, fertility, and overall hormonal balance.

    Symptoms of PCOS include:
excess androgen effects (acne, unwanted facial and body hair), fatigue, fertility challenges due to irregular ovulation, hair thinning, insulin resistance, irregular or missed periods, ovarian cysts, skin tags or dark patches of skin, weight gain or excess abdomen fat.

  • Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS) and Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD)+

Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS) and Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD) are conditions that cause physical and emotional symptoms in the days or weeks leading up to a menstrual period due to hormonal fluctuations. While PMS symptoms are common and typically mild to moderate, they can be more severe.

PMDD is a more severe form of PMS that can significantly affect mood, energy, and daily functioning. In functional medicine, these conditions are often viewed as signals of underlying hormone imbalances, stress, inflammation, or nutritional factors that may be affecting the body’s hormonal rhythm.

Common symptoms of PMS and PMDD:
bloating, breast tenderness, fatigue, headaches, changes in appetite or food cravings, sleep disturbances, joint or muscle pain, mood swings, brain fog

  • Uterine Fibroids+

Uterine fibroids are noncancerous growths of the uterus that often develop during reproductive years.

    Symptoms of uterine fibroids include:
heavy or prolonged menstrual bleeding, painful periods or discomfort during intercourse, pelvic pressure or pain, frequent urination, lower back pain, bloating.
